Description

"La Grande, 1886 - Washington Avenue, looking west from intersection with Depot Street. Blue Mountain Hotel on left - Mr. Pierce Mahaffey, hotel proprietor, is in carriage nearest it. Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Ladd and son Ralph in second carriage. W.J. Snodgrass store on right." "The Blue Mountain Hotel was the center of much activity in early La Grande and saw many changes in proprietors. Fred Scott was in charge of the facility in 1887, James Hislop in 1891 when it went under new management, and Fred Bailey was clerk during the time he planned the robbery of the stage there. In the 1890's, Wood's photography gallery was located there and at times [it] was Blue Mountain House."
