Description

"Livery Feed & Sale Stable - Wallowa, Oregon (Wallowa County) - circa 1895-1900." Notation on original photo: "Wallowa - later burned" ["If so, it is not the same structure that burned September 1914 (owned by Nate Crowfut, operated by Johnson Hawley) and replaced by Morelock's Garage, that was subsequently built on the same site in 1915. Later, two structures were on northwest corner of block with Gable facing north, and were on corner east of bank. Replacement structure of 1915 is still standing in 1973. Small building in this photo (c. 1895-1900) may have been enlarged and converted into the building that later burned, but as shown, it faces the wrong way. Probably a competing establishment instead. Perhaps that which stood on bank of mill race north of Main Street."]
