Cpl Al G. Merkling earned many pesos from flight crews for his fuselage paintings....The finished painting -- one of the most elaborate in the South Pacific -- appeared on a B-24 of the 90th Bomb Group identifiable here by its 'Jolly Roger' (skull and crossbones) logo.
