Description

"Parade of ox drawn covered wagons - La Grande, Oregon" [Have additional 5x7 photograph with short, typed, story:] "May 27, 1939 - La Grand Reverts to Pioneer Days! La Grande went back in years today to the roaring days of '69, with businessmen and townspeople appearing as plainsmen and frontier dandies of the old days when covered wagons rolled over the 'Old Oregon Trail.' Shiny beaver hats, gambler's vests and frock coats appeared, while poke bonnets and flowing crinoline dresses became a common sight on the flag decorated streets. The occasion with the Golden Spike celebration sponsored by the Old Timer's club of the Union Pacific with cooperation of the La Grande Commercial club, naming the show 'Union Pacific.' The Paramount picture of the same name opens at one of the local theatres."
