"5th Air Force Memorial Wall at the Air Force Academy - Colorado Springs - May 2002" Plaque commemorates: "49th Fighter Group / Wing - 50 Aces - 678 Enemy Aircraft Destroyed - 20 Battle Streamers - 10 Presidential Unit Citations - Deployed January 1942, the first Air Force to leave the U.S. at the start of WWII, engaged in campaigns spanning the Pacific. As the leading group in the Pacific Theatre, continuing in 12 more campaigns from North Korea 1950, to Vietnam 1972, creating a history of over 52 years of outstanding excellence for the United States Air Force. - Dedicated June 1993 by the 49the Fighter Group Association."
