Description
"Urbistondo Town Fiesta. Participants - Steele, Bernardo, Hill (taken by Tryk)" From "Darkroom Soldier": "Urbiztondo Fiesta Party. These four Filipino women invited four Photo Section men -- Bernardo, Tryk, Chris Steele, and Fred Hill -- to escort them to a nearby barrio fiesta the night of May 4, 1945. From Hill's letter to Martha, the longest narrative in his two-year correspondence, these are the partygoers Earl Powers photographed: (left to right), Romy, Chris Steele, Fred Hill (in front) Ellie, Ernestina, Ed Bernardo and Francie. (Not pictured: Tryk.) The night was memorable in part because Ernestina expected Hill to dance, but he didn't know how -- not even a step." ("Darkroom Soldier" caption authored by George Venn)
