"Sarah Jane Reeves Findley - Born October 25, 1842 - Carrolltown, Missouri. Crossed plains 1852. Family to mines in southern Oregon 1853, were there during Rogue River Indian War. Father and two brothers served as volunteers at time. She is said to have loaded guns and molded bullets for them. Married A.B. Findley February 14, 1859. She and Mrs. Winslow Phelps Powers both claimed to be first white woman settler in Wallowa Valley (both families arrived about the same time). Also claimed to be first white woman settler in Imnaha Valley."
