Description
An account of the resource
"Manila street bathing and laundry at a water faucet" From "Darkroom Soldier": "Liberated Hydrant. Filipinos bathe, wash, and clean at a Manila hydrant. After the March 3 liberation of Manila by Allied forces, water systems had not been restored to most of the city. Somehow, this hydrant close to Cataluna Street escaped the bombing and still flowed clean water. Granted a three-day unofficial ('wildcat') leave from Mindoro, Fred Hill and Dick Baxter hitched rides in planes and trucks to photograph what remained of the war-torn city. Hill took this photo from the upper window of an empty building." ("Darkroom Soldier" caption authored by George Venn)
