It was from this print that Bob Peace, of Georgia, claimed that he found his abandoned parachute." From "Darkroom Soldier": "North Side Drop Zones. Zones A and B with abandoned parachutes of the 503rd Parachute Infantry. Most airborne infantry landed in pre-selected drop zones on top, but wind gusts carried some 'on the side of the cliff rather than on Topside, accounting for too many casualties.' By March 2, 1945, the island had been cleared and Gen MacArthur returned to visit. 'For Japanese losses of about 4,500 killed and 20 captured..., American casualties number over 1,000 killed, wounded, injured, or missing." ("Darkroom Soldier" caption authored by George Venn)
