Description
An account of the resource
"What started out as a great adventure turned into a much larger challenge when men and horses undertook to transport a herd of elk. It would have been a huge undertaking in good weather but March, 1912, was fickle. Where snow was needed for easier going, it melted and where it wasn't wanted, it fell. Here they are pulling toward St. Anthony, Idaho, coming in after a grueling trip over Teton Pass, Wyoming." "A storm over Teton Pass proves a challenge to man and beast. It was just the beginning of a long trek for 15 Rocky Mountain elk on their way to St. Anthony, Ida. from Jackson Hole, Wyo. and on to Joseph, Ore. in March, 1912. From Joseph the animals were hauled to Billy Meadows in the Chesnimnus unit of Wallowa County. This was the first of several such imports of elk into the area."
